FTP task

"According to the read me file "CAPITALIZATION MATTERS".

Prior to starting this task I looked at the Curtin discussion board (DISCUSSION BOARD>COURSE DISCUSSIONS: MODULE 1: FTP Task learning log). Peter Fletcher had left a post that concerned me. In this post he makes reference to "the security of online data". After reading this I was quite concerned. I started to download the client program thinking, "I hope I don't download the wrong program giving access to my computer to a stranger". I completed the task and continued to contemplate the implications of this protocol.

By allowing other people to access your computer you are increasing your vulnerability to fraud and other criminal activities. I understand how using this protocol in applications such as business, government departments and education would be of great benefit. I am however concerned that people who do not understand the implications of using this protocol will unknowingly give access to their files to fpt clients.

Transfer of information has always contained some risk. Even sending files by 'snail mail' poses some degree of uncertainty. I think that as users of the Internet, all we can do is try and understand as much as we can about new protocols and programs before we use them. I consider it to be necessary for us to be aware of any issues that may affect our computers security.
