Piracy has been a problem for some time but this problem has intensified due to the ease of access to material, provided by such things as P2P file sharing on the internet. I understand that the internet can be used as a substitute for traditional media as users are able to locate exactly what they want, and exactly when they want it. However I do not consider that this creates and urgent need for the media industry to drastically change course. I believe that after a difficult day it is hard to be able to beat the ease at which one can turn on the television with the flick of one switch (or open a newspaper), and begin to enjoy it’s content. So much quicker and easier than turning on your internet browser and searching for entertainment.
The future for the internet and technology is very exciting. The possibilities for it’s applications are seemingly endless. However, as we progress toward the future I consider it will become increasingly difficult to ensure that it’s content is only of benefit to society and not detrimental to it. I believe developers have an obligation to consider uses of their technology and take steps in an attempt to ensure that it is used safely and fairly.
